Adaptive reuse of the historic former “Giardino d’Infanzia”

An important urban regeneration project will involve the center of Carbonia, where the historic "Giardino d’Infanzia" building on via Brigata Sassari will be converted into a modern and functional day nursery. Designed in 1938 by architects Cesare Valle and Ignazio Guidi as part of the founding city, the structure represents an landmark of Italian rationalist architecture, characterized by large, fully openable glass doors, optimal natural lighting, and seamless continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces. Strategically located steps away from schools, major public offices, and transit hubs, the complex currently suffers from severe structural and systems degradation. The redevelopment plan will address damage caused by time and past inappropriate alterations, restoring a valuable piece of local architectural and pedagogical history to the community.
